What Cap Cana actually is

Cap Cana is a 119 km² private gated community south of PUJ airport, anchored by Marina Cap Cana (200 slips, biggest in the Caribbean), Juanillo Beach (the postcard turquoise crescent), Punta Espada golf course (Top-3 Caribbean), Scape Park (eco-adventure park with cenotes and zipline), and ~25 ultra-luxe resorts (Sanctuary, Secrets Cap Cana, Hyatt Zilara, St. Regis). Two security gates control access; non-guests need a confirmed activity reservation to enter.

Cap Cana vs Bávaro in one paragraph

Cap Cana is quieter, more expensive (USD 15–30% premium on F&B), and built around the marina and golf. Bávaro is the dense beach strip with 60+ resorts, nightlife, and walking distance to shops. Cap Cana is right for: honeymoons, yacht charters, golf, families wanting calm. Bávaro is right for: first-timers, party crowds, value hunters, larger excursion menu. See our Cap Cana vs Bávaro page.

Excursions that only launch from Cap Cana

Private yacht charters from the marina (best fleet in country), Scape Park half-day, Punta Espada golf, Juanillo Beach club passes (Little John, Api Beach). Saona/Catalina day trips still depart from Bayahibe — the pickup van from Cap Cana resorts is 60 min west; this is included in the price.

FAQ

Common questions

Where is Cap Cana exactly?+

15 min south of Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ), 30 min south of Bávaro. Closest airport gate. A taxi from PUJ to a Cap Cana resort is USD 30–40 (8–12 km depending on resort).

Is Cap Cana worth it?+

For honeymoons, golf, yachting, and calm: yes, easily. For first-time Punta Cana visitors who want excursion variety, walkable nightlife, and shopping: Bávaro is better value. See our 'is Cap Cana worth it' decision page.

Can I visit Cap Cana if I'm not staying there?+

Yes — Juanillo Beach is technically public (Dominican law), Scape Park sells day tickets (USD 89), beach clubs like Api Beach take outside guests, the marina restaurants are open, and we run yacht charters with hotel pickup from anywhere. The gate guard needs your confirmed reservation name.

What is Juanillo Beach?+

The postcard turquoise beach inside Cap Cana — calmer water than Bávaro because of the offshore reef. Free public access via Scape Park gate or beach club passes (USD 25–55 inc. lounger + minimum spend). Park near Little John or Api Beach.

How much is Scape Park?+

USD 89/adult, USD 70/child base ticket (cenote + 'eco splash'). Full pass with zipline canopy and buggy add-ons runs USD 130–180. Direct hotel pickup adds USD 0 from Cap Cana resorts, USD 15 from Bávaro. Cheaper than walk-in if booked through us.

Is Cap Cana good for kids?+

Excellent. Calm water at Juanillo, Scape Park cenotes are kid-friendly, most resorts have water parks, and the marina has restaurants used to families. Single weakness: limited shopping vs Bávaro.

Is the marina the same as Juanillo?+

No. Marina Cap Cana is a separate basin 3 km north of Juanillo Beach. Yacht charters board at the marina; the beach is for swimming. A free shuttle connects most Cap Cana resorts to both.

Best Cap Cana excursion?+

If budget allows: private yacht charter from the marina (USD 1,400–2,800 for half-day, up to 12 pax). Best value: Scape Park half-day combo with cenote and zipline. Best date-night: marina sunset cocktails at La Palapa.
