What currency is used in Punta Cana?
Punta Cana uses the Dominican Peso (DOP), but US Dollars are accepted everywhere — resorts, tours, restaurants, taxis. Bring small USD bills (1s, 5s, 10s, 20s) for tips and street purchases. Euros are accepted at resorts but you'll get a worse rate. Credit cards work at all 4–5 star hotels.

At resorts, tours and tourist restaurants: yes. At local colmados, gas stations and supermarkets: prefer DOP.
Do I need pesos at all?+
Only if you eat at local restaurants, shop at supermarkets, or take public transport. For a pure resort + tour stay, USD is enough.
Best exchange rate?+
ATM withdrawal beats every cash exchange. Use a card with no foreign-transaction fee for the best deal.
Will I get change in USD?+
Sometimes — usually you get back DOP. Carry small bills so you don't depend on change.
