Can you smoke weed at all-inclusive resorts?

No. No all-inclusive resort in Punta Cana permits cannabis use on its property — not in rooms, not on balconies, not in the gardens, not on the beach loungers, not anywhere. Cannabis is illegal nationally under Dominican Law 50-88, and resorts add their own internal policies prohibiting use of any controlled substance. Enforcement is real: smoke detectors trigger room inspections, security responds to complaints, cleaning fees apply, and eviction without refund is the standard consequence. Police involvement is at management discretion.

Travelers looking for a lively, legal way to socialise overwhelmingly choose boat-based experiences. The Party Boat in Punta Cana is a half-day catamaran sailing the Bávaro coast with music, an open bar of rum cocktails and beer, a snorkel stop on a shallow reef and a swim in the famous natural pool — joining strangers makes it easy to meet other couples and groups. The Private Party Boat is the same experience reserved for your crew only: choose your playlist, your departure time and your stops, with a captain, hostess and bartender included. Both options leave from Cabeza de Toro or Bávaro and are 100% legal, regulated and family- or stag-friendly depending on how you book.

Smoke detectors are everywhere

Newer-build rooms (most rooms built or renovated in the last ten years) have heat-and-smoke detectors connected to security. A persistent burn smell triggers a check. Sealing the door with towels does not defeat ceiling detectors and does not stop housekeeping noticing residue when they enter for turndown.

Concierge can't help

The concierge desk cannot arrange cannabis, will not look the other way, and is required to report suspected drug activity. Asking the concierge for cannabis is a fast way to be flagged by security.

Looking for a social atmosphere?

Punta Cana's reputation is built on its sea, not its land. A catamaran cruise is where the holiday energy actually happens — open bar, sunshine, music, and a 30-person crowd that almost always becomes friends by the time you reach the natural pool. The Party Boat is the public shared cruise (best for solo travelers and couples who want to meet people); the Private Party Boat is the same product reserved for groups of 10 to 50. If you'd prefer a calmer vibe, a private catamaran or sunset cruise gives you the same view at a slower tempo. Adults-only resorts

Excellence El Carmen, Secrets Cap Cana, Royalton CHIC, TRS Turquesa, Hideaway at Royalton, and other adults-only properties enforce the same policy as family resorts. 'Adults-only' refers to age, not to substance permissiveness.

Cap Cana versus Bávaro

Same policy across both zones. Cap Cana's higher-end positioning (Eden Roc, Sanctuary, Hyatt Ziva, Margaritaville Island Reserve) does not translate to a different cannabis stance.

Where to channel that social energy

A Party Boat from Cabeza de Toro or a Private Party Boat from Bávaro is the legal answer to 'I want to relax with friends'. Open bar, music, a swim stop, the natural pool. The concierge will gladly book it.
