Things To Do in Cap Cana: The Honest Local Guide

Cap Cana is small, gated and beautifully overengineered for relaxation. Here's what's actually worth your time, written by people who book it weekly.

Cap Cana in 30 seconds

A 121-square-kilometre gated luxury enclave at the southern tip of the Dominican Republic, 15 minutes from PUJ airport. Five-star resorts (Eden Roc, Sanctuary, Hyatt Ziva, Secrets, Fishing Lodge), a Jack Nicklaus signature golf course at Punta Espada, the country's most photographed cliffside cenote (Hoyo Azul) and one of the cleanest beaches in the Caribbean (Juanillo).

Juanillo Beach

Public, free, immaculate. Soft white sand, calm turquoise water, palm trees, a couple of beach clubs (Little John's and Caleta) and absolutely no resort wristbands. The best beach in the entire Punta Cana region — and it's open to anyone.

Scape Park & Hoyo Azul

Cap Cana's adventure park: ziplines, caves, an iguana sanctuary and the headline 14 m cliffside cenote, Hoyo Azul. Half a day. Brilliant for families and couples. See our dedicated Scape Park guide.

Cap Cana Marina & Fishing Lodge

The marina is the social heart of Cap Cana. Walk the docks at sunset, eat at La Yola (Oscar de la Renta–designed seafood restaurant), and watch the sport yachts and catamarans come and go. Day-charters and sunset cruises leave from here. See /en/cap-cana-marina-yacht-tours.

Punta Espada Golf Club

Jack Nicklaus signature course, eight holes touching the Caribbean, consistently ranked the best golf course in the Caribbean by Golfweek. A round here is a bucket-list experience even if you only golf casually.

Romantic dinners

Cap Cana does private candlelight dinners better than anywhere else in the country. Toes-in-sand at Juanillo, terrace dinner at your Sanctuary or Eden Roc suite, or a chef-prepared menu on a private yacht. See /en/cap-cana-romantic-dinner and /en/private-beach-dinner-cap-cana.

Day trips from Cap Cana

Saona Island (private yacht is the best way), Catalina Island snorkel, the buggy trails around Macao, deep-sea fishing from the marina. Full lineup on /en/cap-cana-excursions.

Nightlife (it exists, just not loud)

Cap Cana is intentionally quiet at night. For nightlife, you transfer 20 minutes north to Hard Rock (Oro club, Coco Bongo) or Imagine Punta Cana. Pre-book the round-trip driver so you're not stuck.

How long to spend in Cap Cana

Five to seven nights is the sweet spot. Three nights is fine for a quick reset; ten nights gives you time to add Santo Domingo or a Samaná day trip.
